Windows 10 provides some ways to customize the icons, including the folder icons. This is great if you don’t want to get stuck with the boring default icons. Here’s how to change the folder icon on Windows 10.

There’s no need to install a third-party app to change the folder icon. Windows 10 already brought the feature to let you select a different, custom folder icon. That can be applied for desktop and Taskbar shortcuts as well.

But, before doing this, you might need to create your own custom folder icon in ICO file format, since Windows 10 doesn’t provide variations of folder icons. If you already have the icon, the rest process is easy.

Folder icons can be changed manually one at a time. To do this, click the folder then right-click > Properties.

Here, either select a random icon or Browse to find your custom folder icon. Click OK to save.

How to change main desktop icons

Windows 10 has its main desktop icons that are useful for basic daily use, like the recycle bin or This PC icon. Those handy icons may look boring for some people. But don’t worry, it’s easy to change them.

Desktop shortcut icons are usually looking boring and out-of-dated. If you have the urge to change them, the method is simple.

Right-click the desktop shortcut, and select Properties.
