How to Recover Deleted WhatsApp Message when Registering Your Number
In order to retrieve deleted WhatsApp message, you have to restore all WhatsApp data when you register your number again. If you lost your phone and lost of all your WhatsApp data including its message, you can restore and recover them from your Google Drive or iCloud storage.
Whether you use Android or iPhone, here’s how to recover deleted WhatsApp message:
First, open WhatsApp.
When you register your WhatsApp number, tap Agree and continue.
Select your country and put your WhatsApp number which you would like to recover deleted WhatsApp message to.
WhatsApp will then ask you permission to access your files, picture, and videos to manage backup and restoring or recovering them to your WhatsApp account. Tap Continue and Allow to agree.

Then, WhatsApp will detect any last backup you’ve created. You can restore all WhatsApp data, including recovering all WhatsApp message from this method. Tap the green Restore button.
Even if you didn’t backup before, you can still recover WhatsApp message locally if you keep using the same phone. But if you lost your phone and didn’t backup to Google Drive or iCloud, then unfortunately, the message can’t be recovered.
WhatsApp then restore everything to your account, including message. Tap Next once done and put your WhatsApp profile name.
WhatsApp will then show Initializing message and show you a page whether you want to backup to Google Drive/iCloud or not. We recommend you to do. Then, WhatsApp will restore the rest of the data if there’s any backup data left on your cloud storage.

How to Recover Deleted WhatsApp Message using File Explorer (Tricky Method)
This method is not really recommended to be done, because it is very tricky and may lead to unsuccessful recovery. If you want more secure method, you can do the first one in this article. But, if you do really want to use this method to get deleted WhatsApp message back, then read on.
WhatsApp, as we know it, offer two ways to backup: cloud storage and local storage. This method involve local storage to restore your WhatsApp data, including its message. And probably works if you use different Android phone.
If you use iPhone, unfortunately, this method won’t work for iOS.

Without further ado, let’s jump into the steps to get deleted WhatsApp message back:
Open File Manager (don’t have this app? You can download it on Play Store. Browse to WhatsApp folder > Database. The backup file is in Database folder, including picture and message.
Now, select file msgstore.db.crypt12 and rename it to msgstore_name.db.crypt12. That file is the latest backup file. You can need to rename it to avoid overwriting, it’s because WhatsApp always keep generating backup with the same file over and over again.
You will also see other list of file with format msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12. Those are WhatsApp backup that have been generated over time. You can either select one of those backup by renaming it to msgstore.db.crypt12 or ignoring it and choose only the latest one (msgstore.db.crypt12).
Now, you will have to open Google Drive on your Android phone.
Tap three dots menu, then select Backups. You can delete the WhatsApp backup in Google Drive and it will make WhatsApp able to restore or recover message from the local backup.
Alright. For the last step, uninstall WhatsApp, and then reinstall it again. Register your phone number just like the steps before and once WhatsApp detect your local backup file, choose to restore and recover all your WhatsApp message from local backup.
