Getting too many notifications from someone on Messenger is annoying. Here’s how to mute someone on Facebook Messenger so you can still receive messages without getting notified.
Facebook Messenger allows you to manage notifications differently. When you mute someone on Messenger, the person you mute won’t get notified. They will never know whether you mute them.
You can feel free to mute anyone, including a group chat you don’t really want to involve in. You can also select how long you want to mute them, including until you unmute them.
How to mute someone on Facebook Messenger
This method can be used on the Messenger website or the mobile app on Android and iPhone, but this tutorial specifically talks about the mobile app.
Open the Messenger app. Long-tap any conversation you want to mute, then tap Mute notifications.
Here, tap any duration you want to use to mute this conversation. You can select 15 minutes, 1 hour, 8 hours, 24 hours, until an alarm, or until you turn it back on.

Once you’ve muted the conversation, a mute icon will appear next to the conversation you muted. You will also see this message saying “Notifications for this conversation are off”.
You can turn it on or unmute it by tapping the button.
There is another way to mute a person or a conversation. Simply tap the profile name on the conversation you want to mute, tap Mute, then select how long you want to mute that person/conversation.
The unmute button will then appear if you have muted them.
Facebook Messenger allows you to change how you want to receive notifications. You can choose who can send you notifications by muting them, and how long you want to mute them.
