Telegram, the cloud-based messaging app, is having some issues for some users. They have been reporting that they are having difficulty logging in and that they are receiving error messages saying “Too many attempts”.
This is obviously a major problem, as it prevents users from accessing their messages. Fortunately, there are some things you can do about it, so you don’t get locked out.
What can I do to fix the “too many attempts” error on Telegram?
If you see the “too many attempts” error when trying to sign in to Telegram, there are a few things you can do to fix it. First, wait for 24 hours and try signing in again. If you still see the error, make sure you’ve logged out of Telegram on all of your other devices. If you’re still having trouble, contact Telegram support for help.
If you successfully sign in, be sure to reset your password to prevent unauthorized access to your Telegram account that might cause the “too many attempts” error in the future.
The “too many attempts” message might also show when a user tries to request a verification code from Telegram. In this case, wait for a few hours before requesting a new verification code.
Waiting for 24 hours
Telegram responded to the “too many attempts” issue on Twitter, saying it was caused by a user pinging the servers too much. They also said that the solution is to wait for 24 hours before being able to sign in again.
Ensure your account isn’t logged in on another device
Some users are reporting that they are still unable to sign in even after waiting for 24 hours. If you are experiencing this issue, try checking to see if your account is logged in on another device.
If it is, you may need to change your password before signing in again on your other device, just to be safe.
Change your IP address
Telegram and other services don’t explicitly say that they ban IP addresses. However, it can still happen, including to users who experience the “too many attempts” error, which prevents them from signing in.
If you previously use a VPN or a third-party DNS service, try disabling it first. Then wait for 24 hours before signing in again. If you use Wi-Fi, you can turn off the router for a few minutes and then turn it on again.
If you use mobile or cellular data, you can change your IP address by enabling the airplane mode on and off.
If you previously don’t use a VPN, try using one, and see if you can still sign in to Telegram.
Contact Telegram support
If you still can’t log in and see the “too many attempts” message, the final step is to reach out to Telegram support. You can do this by filling out a form on the Telegram website. Be sure to include as much information as possible about the problem you’re experiencing.
It’s not pleasant to be locked out of Telegram. If you’re finally able to sign in, make sure you don’t get locked out again by trying to log in too many times.
