Discord is obviously popular, which also makes it more vulnerable to security risks, and limiting users to enter verification code is one of the ways to prevent those risks. But this can be annoying. Here’s how to fix “you are being rate limited” on Discord.
Discord has 2FA (two-factor authentication) that can be used for some channels to provide more security and prevent spam from unverified Discord account. 2FA works by sending a code to the user’s phone, and the user can enter that code into the app to verify.
However, this security feature doesn’t always work pretty well, or perhaps works as intentioned by the developers for security purposes. Somehow you just don’t receive the verification code and get stuck with the “You are being rate limited” message because you entered the wrong code multiple times.
Whatever your problem is, there is always a way to fix this “You are being rate limited” message on Discord, so you can verify yourself and use Discord as usual without interruption.
How to fix “You are being rate limited” on Discord
Use a VPN app
The “You are being rate limited” message on Discord can simply mean your device or IP address is blocked by Discord, again, due to multiple attempts of entering verification code.
Although there’s still a way to verify yourself so your IP doesn’t get banned anymore, using a VPN can be a good shortcut if you simply want to access Discord for a short period of time.
Use another internet connection
If you don’t want to use a VPN, you can always switch to another internet connection. You can switch to a different Wi-Fi network or to another internet provider you have.
Power-cycle your Wi-Fi router
Power-cycling your Wi-Fi router can be a good solution to make it seem like you are on a different IP address. Although this may not work for some routers.
To do this, simply unplug your router and wait for at least one minute. Then plug it back in.
Contact Discord support by submitting a request
Discord may be able to fix the “You are being rate limited” issue by unbanning your IP. You can do that by going to this page, and submit your request about the related issue.
Select Help & Support, enter your associated email address, and select Phone verification in the “Type of question”. Enter the rest of the textbox with relevant information to your problem.
Once you’re done, simply select Submit.
Discord limits how many times you can enter a verification code. If you get stuck and are unable to access Discord because of it, you can simply submit a request so you can freely use Discord on your device.
